NOTICE - TI makes Major Changes to CCS v20

For the full workshop history, see the link.

Code Composer Studio v20

TI made a significant change to CCS version 20. The baseline IDE has been migrated from Eclipse to Theia. While TI has supported Theia builds for a couple of years, the new IDE was merged into "CCS" towards the end of 2024.

At release (and as of Jan 2025), TI does not support all of the MCU architectures used in this course.

  • CC1352 - Supported
  • C2000 - Not supported
  • CC3220 - Not supported
  • MSP432E401Y - Not supported
  • C6000 - Supported (mostly)
  • AM335x - Not supported

Note that we have not tested the latest CCSv20 with the older TI-RTOS (v6). Testing with C6748, all but one of the lab exercises build successfully. (Lab 06b failed to find standard header file for sleep() function.) Conversely, AM335x fails to build with all the latest releases of CCS (including v18 and v20).

In 1Q25 we plan to release a new Installation Guide and CCS tutorial for CCSv20.

We neither encourage or discourage those wanting to explore the new version of CCS. Presently, we are still using CCSv18 for our production work.

Take Care,
Scott & Eric
